He
received his schooling at Shesbagh school in Kashmir, then at Doon school,
Dehra Dun and lastly at Harrow school, U. K.
In
1951, he was commissioned into Indian Army in the 3rd cavalry
Regiment as a 2nd Lieutenant. Thereafter he held several
distinguished posts in the Indian Army. He was selected and posted as
Adjutant, Indian Military Academy, Dehra Dun from 1964 to 1967.
His
love for aviation forced him to volunteer in June 1967 for the new Para
Commando Unit and he became the Commanding Officer in 1968. In 1970 he
helped train Mukti Bahini before the commencement of the Bangladesh war. In
the 1971 Indo Pak War, he led his battalion into action and as a result of
his gallantry and exploits he was awarded the second highest gllantry award
in India “Mahavir Chakra”.
He is
extremely interested in culture and music and is a great patron of Arts and
Craft preservation and their promotion and he has participated in number of
festivals in India, U. K. USA, Japan and France and takes initiative to
organize special exhibitions at the Maharaja Sawai Mansingh II Museum , City
Palace, Jaipur.
Under
his patronage, the Sawai Man Singh II Museum trust and the Jaigarh Public
charitable trust have expanded and have become two of the most important
museums of the country.
At
palm Beaches, U.S.A. he was decorated for the promotion of Polo at
international level. He has captained Polo teams to U. S. A., U. K.,
Hongkong, Brunei, Italy and France. He also promotes cricket and tennis and
his hobbies are flying, parachuting, Polo, Tennis, Squash, Music & reading.
