Major Kumar Bhaskar was born on 03 Apr 1973. He
is an alumnus of prestigious NDA, Khadakwasla and was commissioned into
the Corps of EME at IMA Dehradun on 11 June 1994. During his service, he
has successfully completed B. Tech in Electronics from JNU. .
Major Bhaskar has carved a name for himself in
the annals of adventure in India. A qualified mountaineer, he has
represented Army in many sailing championships at national level. A
participant of Army Trans-oceanic sailing expedition on route Mumbai – Goa
– Mangalore – Lakshadweep – Kochi in February 2000, he went on to lead the
‘Explore Andhra Coast’ Sailing Expedition in October 2000.
Major Kumar Bhaskar has been associated with
the sport of Hot Air Ballooning since 1995. A participant of eight major
ballooning expeditions, he has over 1100 hours of balloon flying
experience. He has been the Chief Instructor and OIC of the Army
Ballooning Node at Bhopal from 2001 to 2003. He has led a number of
successful Hot Air Ballooning Expeditions, the most prominent being the
Trans-India Ballooning Expedition from Ahmedabad to Kolkata in March 2003.
During the final leg of this expedition, he has setup the national record
for longest distance ballooning (310 kms).
Major Bhaskar is presently posted as General
Staff Officer at Army Adventure Wing, Directorate General Of Military
Training, Army Headquarters.
